The results of karma cannot be known by thought and so should not be speculated about. Thus thinking, one would come to distraction and distress. Therefore, Ananda, do not be the judge of people; do not make assumptions about others. A person is destroyed by holding judgements about others." (from the Anguttura Nikaya)
That whole not being "the judge of people?" That whole not making "assumptions about others?"
Yeah, I've got a long, long, long, long way to go with that.
Maybe it's time to start working on that for real.
